Pócspetri

Two-disc edition – Hungarian black and white documentary, directed by Judit Ember, 1983. In the bonus features she talks about the making of the film and about the background of the events.

By making her film Pócspetri, Judit Ember gave the chance of appeal to a branded village held guilty for half a century. The film was not premiered before 1989. In the bonus features she talks about the making of the film and about the background of the events.

On 3 June 1948, at a rally in protest against the nationalisation of the schools, a policeman was murdered in Pócspetri. The summary court turned the event into a show trial. Several people were convicted, and the notary was innocently sentenced to death and executed. While reconstructing the events, Judit Ember resolved the traumata living on in the people’s minds, integrating them into collective memory.
